How was CeCe Peniston discovered?
CeCe Peniston ‘s music career began as a background vocalist. She was invited by producer Felipe Waxx Delgado to sing on a rap album for the label A&M Records. In an interview with 5 Magazine , CeCe Peniston (real name: Cecelia Veronica Peniston) said : “At the time, there was a rapper (Overweight Pooch) who was on A&M, and I was asked to do some background vocals. I came over, did the background vocals for her, and the label heard it. They said, ‘We like your flow, why don’t you do your own single?'”
Felipe Waxx Delgado and CeCe Peniston recognized the opportunity and decided to record a demo. The demo ultimately became the song “Finally,” an international hit.
How did “Finally” come about?
CeCe Peniston wrote poetry. So when she was asked to record a demo, she remembered one of her poems, which she reportedly wrote during a chemistry class: “Finally.” Speaking to 5 Magazine about the poem and the song’s creation, CeCe Peniston said , “I was thinking about dating in college and how I hadn’t found the right guy yet. I came up with the melody and lyrics to ‘Finally,’ and then RK and Felipe (the guys I was working with at the time) wrote the music for it. We went into the studio, finished it, sent it to the label, and they loved it. And that’s how it all started.”
It wasn’t really expected that CeCe Peniston would make house music, as she always considered herself an R&B singer. In the studio, she even wanted to slow down the song, but that never happened. Ultimately, CeCe Peniston released “Finally,” one of the biggest house hits of the ’90s!
